REGAL 350R carbon black is a low structure specialty black pigment designed
to impart a very blue tone while promoting good gloss and moderate color
strength in lithographic gloss inks.
Lithographic Inks
REGAL 350R pigment black is a blue tone carbon black with very low vehicle
demand and moderate color strength. It is used primarily in lithographic gloss ink applications where additional blue undertone is desired. REGAL 350R pigment black is the bluest of the Cabot pigment blacks in fluffy form typically used in high gloss heatset inks. The increased blueness can result in savings on blue toner.
Liquid Inks
REGAL 350R pigment black is also very applicable in liquid inks requiring low
viscosity. The low contamination level of REGAL 350R pigment black can help
reduce cylinder abrasion during long gravure press runs. Though it has of
moderate strength compared to other grades used in liquid inks. Its blue tone
and gloss are beneficial in printing on non-porous substrates, and its low
structure imparts scuff resistance when applied to porous substrates.
REGAL 400R carbon black is a low structure pigment black designed to impart
very good color strength to printing inks and other applications.
Lithographic Inks
REGAL 400R pigment black is a high gloss, high strength black suitable for
sheet fed and heat set lithographic ink applications. With its oxidized surface,
REGAL 400R pigment black exhibits very good dispersibility and imparts good
flow to lithographic inks.
Liquid Inks
REGAL® 400R pigment black is easily stabilized in nitrocellulose and polyamide
liquid inks. It can disperse very well with good viscosity and dispersion stability.
Its gloss and strength characteristics are desirable for packaging inks on nonporous
substrates.
Energy Curing Inks
REGAL 400R pigment black is well suited for energy curing liquid and paste
printing inks that require high gloss and high color strength. Its oxidized surface
imparts excellent flow and gloss in paste energy cure inks, while offering
excellent dispersion stability.
REGAL 660R carbon black is a low structure specialty black pigment designed to impart high gloss and high jetness to printing inks and other applications.
Liquid Inks
REGAL 660R pigment black is suitable for use in liquid inks requiring low
viscosity, high gloss and high jetness. It is compatible with both aqueous and
non-aqueous systems. Its low structure enables high gloss when printed on
non-porous substrates.
Coatings
REGAL 660R pigment black is a low structure, high tinting strength, regular color black suitable for use in liquid and powder coating systems. Its lower structure allows for less viscosity build while maintaining tint strength in both industrial and architectural coatings.
Other Applications
REGAL 660R pigment black is suitable for the production of dispersions for
coloring leather articles.
VULCAN® P carbon black is a pelleted highly reinforcing furnace black in the class formerly known as Super Conductive Furnace Black. It has a high surface area per unit mass and some surface porosity. VULCAN P carbon black is designed to impart electrical conductivity to rubber and plastic compounds.
VULCAN P carbon black has an exceptional purity, demonstrated by an
extremely low solvent extract level, sulfur content, ash level and sieve residue. This exceptional chemical and physical purity with easier dispersion in rubber distinguishes VULCAN P carbon black from Cabot’s STERLING® C medium conductive carbon black.
Performance Features
The effect of VULCAN P carbon black on electrical conductivity in rubber
compounds is dependent on carbon black loading. The VULCAN P percolation curve relative to other carbon blacks in rubber can be found below.
Rubber components having electrical resistivity in the range 103 to 106 ohm·cm are normally classified as “antistatic” and components below 103 ohm·cm are classified as “conductive”. VULCAN P carbon black can meet these conductivity requirements without need for very high carbon black loadings. Its dispersion and processing in rubber is easier than very super conductive carbon black products.
The rubber reinforcement properties of VULCAN P carbon black are comparable
to those of ASTM N300 type carbon blacks.
Typical Applications
Antistatic and conductive applications:
- Hospital flooring and sheeting
- Conveyor and power transmission belts
- Printing rolls
- Hoses for mining, petroleum
- Cable screening
Product Highlights
VULCAN XC72 specialty carbon black is a uniquely designed conductive carbon
black from our XC family of conductive carbon blacks. Its unique properties allow end products to deliver functionality at relatively lower loading levels compared to Cabot’s other carbon blacks in the XC family. VULCAN XC72 specialty carbon black has demonstrated its performance capabilities for many years, allowing compounders to feel confident using it in a wide range of conductive applications.
Performance Features
VULCAN XC72 specialty carbon black has several important features:
- A full range of conductivity performance depending on loading (but typically at lower loadings than other XC carbon blacks or standard carbon blacks)
- Good dispersion characteristics to promote surface smoothness and preserve
mechanical performance of polymer
- Low sulfur and grit levels
Key Applications
VULCAN XC72 specialty carbon black is suitable for use across a range of conductive
applications:
- Conductor shields used in medium voltage power cables
- Insulation shields used in medium voltage power cables
- Conductive plastic molded or extruded parts where protection from electrostatic
discharge (ESD) is required
By compounding VULCAN XC72 specialty carbon black into plastics, a compounder
can change the electrical property of the final product from insulative to conductive,
anti-static, or dissipative. For instance, VULCAN XC72 specialty carbon black is
compounded into plastics trays and pouches that are used extensively in electronics
manufacturing to protect sensitive products against electrostatic discharge. In
addition, it is frequently compounded in molded or extruded parts to help deliver
dissipative performance in hazardous environments.
